The Department of Culture, Communications and Media at the IOE have been organizing “Sustainability Skills Swapshops”. These are open sessions led by staff or students on a voluntary basis that involve a demonstration of and/or hands-on participation in a sustainability skill.

UCL staff and students are welcome to join us for the 7th Swapshop in our series on December 3rd, where we'll explore creative and eco-friendly ways to celebrate the festive season while reducing waste! 🦌

Christmas brings joy, but also leads to excess, with millions of greeting cards and decorations contributing to environmental harm. For instance, the Royal Mail delivers 150 million cards during this season, and a typical UK resident discards around 24 cards afterwards. 📮 Together, let’s make this festive time more sustainable!

In this workshop, you’ll learn how to:

  •  🍃 Print festive designs using natural materials like foliage and flowers.
  •  🐾 Create stamps and textures from everyday waste, such as toilet paper rolls and vegetable roots.
  •  🎄Craft your own holiday cards, ornaments, or garlands using these techniques.

What to bring (if you can):

  • Empty toilet paper rolls (tubes)
  • Scraps of corrugated cardboard (or any other type)
  • Flowers and/or foliage

Date: 3 December 2024

Time: 12:00–14:00

Location: The Art Studio A at the Art, Design and Museology wing (8th Floor, @ the IOE 20 Bedford Way)
